ECON C102 Course Information

Course Description

(A/UC/CSU)

This course is the study of the national and global economy; the impact of economic aggregates and government action. Emphasis on macroeconomic concepts; including national income, productivity, employment, inflation, monetary and fiscal policy. Exploration of the business cycles, international trade, finance and social change from economic perspective and its impact on economic growth in an increasingly industrialized world. (formerly ECON C112) (Prerequisite: None.) Advisory: Level 1 Reading, Level 2 Writing.

  • Textbook:
    • "Economics Today: The Macro View with MyEconLab" by Roger LeRoy Miller (13th Edition).
    • "Murder At The Margin" by Marshall Jevons (1993 Edition).
  • Estimated Time per Week: 9-12 hours/week
  • Skill Level: College level reading, no pre-required courses. Macroeconomics and Microeconomics may be taken in either order. In fact, some students have been known to take them simultaneously.
  • Special Requirements: It is important that the material be ordered using the Student Bundled ISBN of 0321449177 for "Economics Today" or the Access Codes will not work for the Course Compass companion site which all students are required to use for this course. If a student desires to use a used book for this course, they must contact the instructor via email before the course starts so that they may obtain the correct ISBN for purchasing an Access Code for the Course Compass Companion site. An access code is only good for one course. Each term a different course companion site is set up for the students. There are two different ISBNs and therefore it is vital that students do not waste their money on purchasing the worng one.
  • Assignments & Tests: All assignments and tests will be located on the Course Compass Companion Web site. HOWEVER, it is imperative that all students register on the Cerro Coso course Web site to obtain the required information for accessing the companion Course Compass class site.
  • Proctored Exams: No
  • Additional Comments: It is very important that all students taking this course contact the instructor via email (jgaspard@cerrocoso.edu) if they have not received a "Welcome" email from the instructor by the day before the course starts.
