understanding of spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel. Data Tables, Scenario
Management, using Solver, importing and exporting data, enhancing with
Visual Basic for applications and modifying Excel default settings are
covered. This course prepares the learner for the expert level Microsoft

Level: Intermediate knowledge of spreadsheet creation, design, saving; file saving, email and sending attachments. An understanding of internet navigation and use of web sites is also important. It is helpful to have taken Beginning and Intermediate Excel courses, prior to this class.
Special Requirements: MS Excel 2007 or 2003 software on your windows pc is required. No earlier versions may be used.
Assignments & Tests: Spreadsheet software is taught online, over the world-wide web. Students upload completed course files to the Cerro Coso College server from their personal computer, and complete CASEGRADER cases on the CASEGRADER website. To be successful in this course, students will need MS Office Excel v. 2007 software, their text, an internet connection (high speed preferred) and personal computer. This hands-on microcomputer course is designed to provide an advanced understanding of MS Excel 2007. Students should expect to spend about 3 hours per week on their reading and assignments.

Additional Comments: Students will learn financial tools and functions such as calculatating periodic payments, future values, length of investments, use of RATE, NPV and IRR functions, calculate mortgage loan payments and prepare amortization schedules. They will also work with depreciation, audit workbooks, and evaulate formulas, understand cost-volume-profit relationships, what-if analyses, scenarios, install and activate solver and use it to find optimal solutions. They will also expand their knowledge of Excel 2007 by working with databases and queries using the query wizard, set up web queries, filter and sort data, import data from XML, and then finish by working with visual basic editor, sub procedures, learn conditional statements, If statements and If-Then-Else control structures and comparisons and logical operators . This course completes topics required in preparation for the core level Microsoft Excel Office Specialist certification exam. (Advisory Prerequisite: CSCI C153.)
